Saltillo—Shirley Ann Tackett Sanders, age 80, passed away Monday September 18, 2023 at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born in Lee County on March 20, 1943 to Hubert and Jessie Frederick Russell. Always a hard worker, Shirley was retired from Olympic products. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Saltillo. She enjoyed yard sales and looking for bargains. Shirley loved the outdoors, camping and fishing at the lake with family. She adored her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Shirley leaves behind five children, Junior Sanders of Guntown, Vickie Lansdell (Dell) of Nettleton, Terry Sanders (Lisa) of Saltillo, Tina Whaley (Johnny) of Tupelo, and James Sanders (Melissa) of Guntown; 35 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Brenda Kemper; and a brother, Kenneth Russell.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bob Tackett; her second husband, Mitch Sanders; two children, Brenda Payne and Tim Tackett; three grandchildren, Brandy Whaley, Denise Hallmark, and Shawn Gillespie; two brothers, Anthony and Denis Russell; two sisters, Betty Houston and Carolyn Webb; and a daughter-in-law, Vickie Sanders.
Visitation was held from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Pegues, Saltillo.
Services honoring her memory will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at the Saltillo Chapel of Pegues Funeral Directors with Bro. David Davis and Bro. Jordan Davis officiating. Burial will be in Mayfield Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Sanders, Trevan Sanders, Dakota Whaley, Ryan Sanders, Jamie Langley, and Mark Gillespie. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Sanders, Chris Sanders, Greg Sanders, Toby Lansdell, Richard Lansdell, and Avery Lansdell.
