Shirley Hattaway

June 29, 1941 — November 13, 2010

Mooreville - Shirley C. Hattaway, 69, died Saturday, November 13, 2010, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born in Carthage, New York on June 29, 1941. She had in lived Mooreville for the past 42 years. She retired from the North Mississippi Medical Center as a nurse assistant after 25 years of service. She was a devoted member of Mooreville United Methodist Church and worked closely with the youth group. She played with a monthly bunco group, loved watching and being with the hobo highsteppers, fishing, playing card games, crocheting, drawing and painting. She enjoyed playing the harmonica and dulcimer and earlier in her life had performed in two musicals. She was a member of the C.A.S.H. girls. She enjoyed going out to eat and being with her family and friends. One of her greatest joys was her devoted dachshund compainion, Dolly.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Sammy Washburn officating and a eulogy by Kathy Dickerson. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include her special friend, Clarence Oxyner of Mooreville; one daughter, Tammie Williams (Lenard) of Tupelo; one son, Andrew Trexler (Chandra) of Mooreville; one sister, Marie Lane (Bob) of Lawrenceville, Virginia; 7 grandchildren, Kari Hodge (fiance, Matthew Fortenberry), Gessika Hodge, Francis Williams, Cristan Trexler, Matthew Williams (Jonna), Trish McCuller and Ethan Williams; her chosen grandchildren, Rebecca Fortenberry and Ryan Moody; 6 great grandchildren; all of her nephews and nieces; her caregivers, Shana, Tina, Thomas, Mary and Wade.

She was preceded in death by her chosen parents, Ralph and Edna Montgomery; sister-in-law, Patricia Trexler Moore; an infant brother, Frank Edward Murphy, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Jack Leslie Sr., Bill Pickens, Terry Dickerson, Jerry Hodge, Tracy Hodge, David Horton, Michael Willis and Tyler Dickerson

Honorary Pallbearers will be Monty Trexler, Janette Watson , Willie Trexler, Brad Smith, Tim Hodge, Kenneth Leslie, Dennis Nichols, Danny Boyd, Glen Riggs, James Simmons, Jordan Hunt, Jerold Montgomery and the men of the Mooreville Methodist Charge.
