Tupelo - Shirley Emily Wilson Davis, 72, died Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born July 1, 1937 to Roy W. and Rebecca Brown Wilson. She attended Itawamba Community College and was retired from United Insurance Company. She was a loving grandmother, affectionately known as Mama Shirley. She was married to James A. "Wormy" Davis who died in November of 2001. A member of the Elvis Presley Fan Club, she spoke numerous times at the Elvis Chapel of Memories and Birth Place, reflecting on her memories growing up with Elvis. She was a devout Christian who believed strongly in the power of prayer and attended church through the mission outreach held at the Ashbury Court apartment complex. She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Wesley Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include her daughter, Teresa Mason (Greg) of Chesterville; two sons, Donny Kelly (Penny) of Chesterville and Jimmy Adams (Kathy) of Amory; her mother, Rebecca Brown Wilson of Tupelo; her sister, Diane Whitt (Bill) of Shannon; 11 grandchildren, Laurie Fowler (Travis), Melanie Enis (Jimmy), Kellie McLellen (Nathan), Emily Mason, Casey, Justin and Austin Kelly, Jeremy and Taylor Adams, and Jamy and Brittany Jones; and 15 great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her father.
Pallbearers will be Travis Fowler, Jimmy Enis, Nathan McLellen, Casey Kelly, Justin Kelly, and Austin Kelly.
Honorary Pallbearers will be her friends at Ashbury Court.
Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
