Mantachie - Sherman Sparky Phillips, 66, died Sunday, July 13, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a sudden illness. A Kingsport, Tenn. native, he was born March 14, 1942 to Claude Allen and Cora Irene Stubbelfield Phillips. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He worked as a truck driver for 45 years, retiring from Old Dominion Freight Lines after 21 years. An avid Tennessee Vol's fan, he enjoyed watching college football and CB radios. He loved his family and the time he spent with his grandchildren. He attended Dorsey Baptist Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Danny Rushing officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 23 years, Loretta Phillips of Mantachie; five sons, Shannon Phillips, Brandon Phillips and wife, Cathy, all of Gainsville, Ga., Billy Joe Phillips of Kingsport, Tenn., Shave Phillips and wife, Jamie, of Mantachie, and Wade Phillips and wife, Kelly, of Saltillo; one sister, Patssy Stump of Kingsport, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren, Ashley Phillips, Britney Phillips, Georgia Phillips, Kayleigh Phillips, Austin Phillips, Mandy Mallory, Brandon Phillips, Jr., Danny Phillips, Charla Watson, Hailee Rutledge, Emily Rutledge, James-Michael Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Ashton and Summer Mallory.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Danny Wade Phillips; and two brothers, Doug PHillips and Charlie Bill Phillips.
Pallbearers will be Shannon Phillips, Brandon Phillips, Billy Joe Phillips, Shane Phillips, Wade Phillips and Brandon Phillips, Jr.
