SHARON SCOTT SMITH Belden - Sharon Scott Smith, age 65, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, on January 23, 2015, following a courageous 22 year battle with cancer. She was born on May 24, 1949, to James O. and Gethie Scott of Belden. She spent her childhood in Belden, where she attended Belden Baptist Church and graduated from Belden High School in 1967. She married Talmadge Smith on November 17, 1966, and recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. She graduated from Mildred Box's Beauty School in 1969, and worked for 8 years at Jean's Beauty Shoppe in Belden. In 1980, she opened Sharon's Beauty Shoppe where she worked until 1993. She served two terms as corresponding secretary for the Tupelo Women's Club. She has been an active member of First Baptist Church in Tupelo since 1986. She enjoyed listening to and singing gospel music. She was a supportive and devoted wife to her husband as he served in area churches as minister of music. Her hobbies included shopping, cooking, decorating. Her favorite pastime was traveling with friends and family with her most memorable being touring Ireland with her husband and annual trips to the beach with her daughter and sisters. Her survivors include her husband, Talmadge Smith of Belden; her children, Perry Smith of Southaven, and Summer Riles (Chris) of Tupelo; two sisters, Jimmie Dale Farrar and Mitzi Davis (Andy) both of Tupelo; one brother, Donald Scott (Pam) of Belden; three grandchildren, Katlin Coleman (Matt), Madison Smith, and Tripp Riles; and one great grandchild, John Alan Coleman. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Donald Azlin; her brother in law, Charles Farrar; one sister in law, May Dell Posey; one niece, Felecia Smith; and one nephew, Cleve Smith. Pallbearers will be Andy Davis, Cleveland Smith, Robert Smith, Billy Smith, Richard Smith and Clint Smith, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be her brother in laws, Wayne Smith and Joe Smith; her childhood friends, Wanda Joseph, Marilyn King, and Lillian Patterson; her special neighbors, Mrs. Mary Putnam and Kim Reese; and special caregivers, Kim Potter, RN, Jan Ward, RN, Laura Galloway, RN and Janet Ballard, RN. The celebration of her life will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at First Baptist Church, Tupelo with Dr. Gayle Alexander officiating and with a eulogy and special music by her beloved husband of 48 years, accompanied by Randy Wood. Also, special music by her late mother, Gethie Scott, "Ring Those Golden Bells." A graveside service will follow at Tupelo Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements Visitation will be 3-8pm on Monday, January 26, 2015 at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.
