Fort Campbell - Sgt. Joshua Sean Sheffield, 29, died Sunday, January 30, 2011, at his parents home in Tupelo. A native of Tupelo, he was born March 14, 1981 to John Hoyt and Lisa Camille Stegall Sheffield. He was a 1999 graduate of Mooreville High School. January 14, 2004, he joined the United States Army. He became a Calvary Scout with the U.S. Army, subsequently serving an 18 month tour of duty in Iraq. He was still currently enlisted, stationed at Fort Campbell Kentucky. He was an avid reader and loved to watch movies, especially science fiction. He loved his family and friends and met God with a glad heart, knowing he was going home.
A Mass of Christian Burial with Full Military Honors will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at St. James Catholic Church with Father Tom Lalor officiating. A eulogy will be given by his sister, Sara Sheffield. Burial will be in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in Saltillo. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by one son, Seth Alexander Sheffield; his parents, John and Lisa Sheffield of Tupelo; one sister, Sara Sheffield. He was the grandson of Hoyt Sheffield of Tupelo and Ann Gusmus Sheffield of Saltillo, Edith and the late Royce Stegall of Palmetto..
The Military Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary Pallbearers Andy Sheffield, Ted Sheffield, Gene Knight Kenny King, Matt Cox and Ed Cox.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at the funeral home. A vigil for the deceased will follow visitation in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues.
