Sarah Wiygul

March 1, 1925 — October 27, 2008

Shannon - Sarah Lynn Wiygul, 83, died Monday, October 27, 2008, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born March 1, 1925, to Leon Cortez and Rebecca Johnson Filgo. A 1942 graduate of Shannon High School, she then went on to MSCW where she graduated with a degree in Secretarial Science. She taught for 17 years at Shannon Elementary School. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Shannon where she served as pianist and organist for many years. She had a special gentle spirit that touched her family, friends, students, her music, and her church.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 30, 2008, at the Jefferson Street Chapel with Rev Jack Maroon and Rev. Danny Rushing officiating. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, John "Bubber" Wiygul of Shannon; two daughters, Janis Hopper of Tupelo and Mona Viveros and her husband, Art, of Jackson, Tenn..; four grandchildren, Gordon Hopper and Alison of Tupelo, Sarah Hopper and Jason of Caledonia, Mitchell Hopper of Tupelo and Dana Viveros of Jackson; one great granddaughter, Abbigail Rose of Caledonia..

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Edward Filgo.

Pallbearers will be David Doc Robbins, Danny Simmons, Michael Filgo, Mike Witthauer, Larry Johnson and Jimmy Rutherford.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Andrews Sunday School Class and Ladies I Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of Shannon.

Visitation will be Wednesday 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
