Sarah Parker
Tupelo—Sarah Hewitt Parker passed away October 10, 2022 at her home. She was 87 years old. Born June 26, 1935 in Jackson, Mississippi, Sarah was the daughter of Harold J. and Katherine Downing Hewitt. She graduated from Central High School in Jackson, Mississippi and then attended Millsaps College, earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Tupelo, Mississippi. Upon moving to Tupelo, she taught English and History at Saltillo High School where she was a beloved educator and had a positive influence on many people. Sarah was an avid football fan and enjoyed watching games with friendly family rivalries. Her favorite thing to do was gather with her family at the holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her family was her heart and she beamed with pride whenever they came to see her.
Sarah leaves behind three children, Roy O. Parker Jr. and wife, Merritt, of Corinth, Margaret R. Parker of Tupelo, and John H. Parker and wife, Wendy, of Saltillo; four grandchildren, Roy O. Parker III and wife, Daniella, William A. Parker and wife, Paige, John H. Parker II, and Ginny Parker; and three great-grandchildren, Hayden, Kash, and Dixie Parker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 67 years, Roy O. Parker Sr., and her sister, Virginia H. Jones.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Tupelo Memorial Park with Rev. Matt Powell officiating. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Roy O. Parker III, William A. Parker, John H. Parker II, and John D. Mercier III.
