SARA MAE MAXEY
TUPELO - Sara Mae Maxey, 82, died Sunday, May 14, 2006, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A Tupelo native, she was born Nov. 1, 1923, to the late Thomas Gilbert and Ada Lee Lynch Barksdale. She was a 1941 graduate of Tupelo High School. She retired from Blue Bell Manufacturing after many years of service. She then went to work for the Bank of Mississippi, retiring again, and then worked with her husband at Better Brands, retiring a third time. She had been a member of Second Baptist Church (now Wildwood Baptist Church) of Tupelo since 1940.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Bro. Lewis Bridges and Bro. Doug Jones officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Melvin Maxey of Tupelo; one son, Russell Allen Maxey and wife, Brenda, of Tupelo; one grandson, Russell A. Maxey Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Lorean Barksdale, Ida Daughdrill, Maggie Baggett and Gussie Bishop, and a brother, Russell Barksdale.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be members of Wildwood Baptist Church.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
