San Adkerson

January 8, 1947 — December 24, 2010

TUPELO San Shuttleworth Adkerson, 63, died peacefully in her sleep from complications related to Parkinsons Disease while visiting New Orleans, LA. on Dec. 24th, 2010.
She was the endearing and beloved mother of Richard Clark Adkerson, William Tyler Adkerson and wife Heather and Robert Ryan Adkerson. She was the former spouse and close friend of Richard Carl Adkerson. She was the cousin of Richard Dick Daugherty and his wife, Brenda, and of Diane Daugherty Green.
Born on Jan. 8, 1947, in Tupelo to Byron Tyler and Laura Daugherty Shuttleworth, she graduated from Tupelo High School in 1965 and from Mississippi State University with a BA degree with special distinction in 1969.
During her life, she lived in New Orleans, Houston and Falls Church, Va. before returning to Tupelo in 2005 and continued to have friends in all of those places.
She taught at the Sam Barth School in New Orleans until retiring to be a full-time mother.
San will be especially remembered for her kindness, her strength, her positivity and the unwavering love and support she provided to those close to her. She enjoyed traveling to new places, reading, spending time with her friends, her cats, and attending Mississippi State athletic events.
Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday in The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with a visitation at the same location beginning 1:30 p.m.
