Rock Hill, S.C. - Samuel Hunter Quimby, III, 67, died Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Peidmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, S.C. after an extended illness. A Gulfport native, he was born May 22, 1942 to Samuel Hunter Quimby Jr, and Mary Elizabeth Quimby. A graduate of Tupelo High School, he then went on to Mississippi State University where he graduated in 1964 with a degree in accounting. He was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force in the Audit Agency from 1964 to 1970. He then worked for Southern Wood Piedmont Company in Spartanburg, S.C. until 1985. He then moved to Rock Hll, S.C., where he was the Director of Internal Audits for Winthrop University until he retired in 2008.
Graveside Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Tupelo Memorial Park with Rev. Dave Jensen officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his daughter, Karen Quimby Hatcher (LCDR James E. Hatcher, U.S. Navy) of Woodbridge, Va.; his brother, Ernie Quimby (Alice) of Hernando;one granddaughter, Aleah Nicole Hatcher.
Visitation will be 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
