SAMUEL LOGAN FORSYTH SR.

Tupelo - SAMUEL LOGAN FORSYTH SR, 85, died Friday, March 21, 2008, at his residence. A Corinth native, he was born November 7, 1922 to Robert and Ella Maude Forsyth. A veteran of World War II he served in the United States Army, Calvary Division. He was stationed in the Philippines. It was during the Iwo Jima invasion that he was wounded. He received two Purple Hearts but only accepted one. After serving over fifty years in law enforcement in Lee County, he was recently employed as a bailiff at Circuit Court. After retirement from the Tupelo Police Department and the Lee County Sheriffs Department, he also worked as head of security at the North Mississippi Medical Center, Daybrite Lighting and Action Industry. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a 32nd degree Mason.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2008 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Mr. Sammy Lansdell officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park with a law enforcement honorary guard. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include; his two sons, Samuel L "Sammy" Forsyth, Jr, of Tupelo, Mississippi and Robert W. Murphy and his wife, Linda, of Pontotoc, Mississippi; his sister Mildred Forsythe Barrett of Tupelo, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Tammy Streetman, Shawn Murphy and Dustin Murphy; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Connie Lee Brown Forsyth; his parents; two sisters, Margaret Owens and Catherine Forsyth; two brothers, Bill Forsyth and James Forsyth .

Pallbearers will be members of the Tupelo and Lee County law enforcement. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Presley, Marcus Presley, Judge Tommy Gardner and Judge Paul Funderburk

Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2008.
