Sammie T. Pannell
Verona—Sammie T. Pannell, age 73, passed away Friday, November 3, 2023 at the Baldwyn Nursing Facility. He was born March 23, 1950 in Lee County, the son of Johnny Pannell and Sally Blair Pannell. Over the years Sammie worked in many capacities in the furniture industry and then retired from Kruger Industries. He also served as a talented chef. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Church in Tupelo. Sammie was a loving husband to his wife, Ledell Blanchard Pannell and they enjoyed 46 years together. His greatest joy came from the cherished moments spent with his family.
Sammie is survived by his wife, Ledell of Verona; his children, Vernessia Johnson, Jimmy Owens, Rhonda Rogers, Stephanie Glenn (Terry), Frederick Kennedy, Latasha Blair (Theodus), Reginald Miller, Nekautor Blanchard, Torris Blanchard (Roslyn), Bryan Blanchard, Emmanuel, Karmen (Shaquille), Kaylyn, and Jessie; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his brothers, Johnny Pannell Jr. (Ruth), Jessie Pannell, Tommy Pannell, and James Hokey; his sisters, Susie Vaughn (James), Ruby Berry (Raymond), Linda Shelton (Sherman), Alfredia Douglas (Dennis), and Mildred Perry (John); a brother-in-law, Willie Shelley; and sisters-in-law, Ercell Pannell Shirley Bowens and Frances Rupert; special daughter-in-law, Cindy Pannell Kennedy; and his best friend, James Lane.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Sally Panell; a son, Kevin Kennedy; a sister, Octovius Pannell; sisters-in-law, Mary Hardin and Shirley Ware; and grandchildren, Terrance Shumpert and Stephone Hadley.
Visitation will be 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2023 at Pegues, Tupelo.
Services celebrating Sammie’s life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the Jefferson Street Chapel with Bishop Rendell Hill officiating.
Pallbearers Notorious Kennedy, Won Kennedy, Jaylan Blanchard, Jamarrion Pounds, Authur Kennedy, and Nanekautor Blanchard.
