Ruth Rumery

Tupelo - Ruth R. Rumery, 93, died Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Cedars Heathcare Center after a brief illness. A native Litchfield, Nebraska, she was born June 22, 1917, to Harve and Ora Brogden Lang. She graduated from Litchfield High School and then attended business school and nursing school. She worked as a bookkeeper for Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric company from 1951 to 1976, when she retired. After living 46 years in Davenport, Iowa, she and her husband moved to Tupelo. She was an avid reader and enjoyed neddlework. She was a member of the Ladies Lions and Tri-T, and an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church where she served in many different capacities. She was the widow of Kenneth A. Rumery who died in 1997.

Services will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Ray Rooney, Rev. Brian Collier, and Rev. Betty Flynn officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her daughter, Janet R. Violette of Tupelo; two grandchildren, Kristine McGuire and fianc, Edward Al Furr, of Savannah, Ga. and Steven Violette (Winter) of Tupelo; two great-grandchildren, Megan and Katie McGuire.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her son, Mark Alan Rumery; her sister, Enid Brundage; her brother, John E. Lang; and a son-in-law, Randall W. Violette.

The Weslean Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

The family will greet friends following the service Wednesday.
