Ruby Lee "Granny" Nichols, 88, died Tuesday, June 11, 2019, in the hospice unit of North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born April 2, 1931, to William Arthur and Lola Viola Davis Abbott. For 25 years, she worked at Mid South Packers. Granny enjoyed sitting outside reading her Bible and the newspaper in her swing and watching John Wayne movies. She was a member of Sherman Apostolic Tabernacle.
Survivors include her three daughters, Ruby D. Williams of Pontotoc, Tammy Holt and her husband, Danny of Blue Springs and Debbie Ethridge and her husband, Terry of Belden; two sons, James Nichols of Blue Springs and Richard Nichols and his fiancé, Tamara Clayton of Dorsey; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Anne Cagle, Agnes Hill and Helen Tubman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Nichols; two sisters, Martha Jean and Lula Mae; and four brothers, Bo Abbott, Dewey Abbott, L.C. Abbott and William Abbott.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.
Services honoring her life will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2019, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Terry Ethridge officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Smith, Patrick Pettit, David Williams, William Abbott, Jimmy Boyd and Shawn Martin.
