Saltillo - Molly Rozelle (Leslie) Gassaway, 100, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Lake Martin Hospital, Dadeville, AL.

She was born February 29, 1908 to James Blythe and Loula Emma (Estes) Leslie and was the widow of Elder James Clovis Gassaway whom she married on January 1, 1927.

Born in Ballardsville, MS and raised there, in Verona, MS and other small hamlets in Lee County, she had lived in Akron, OH during her early married life until The Great Depression sent her and J. C. back to MS. She had been a resident of Saltillo from 1934 until 2004 when she moved to Brandon, MS to live with her daughter, Mary Louise. Recently she had been a resident of The Veranda in Dadesville, AL. She was a member of Beulah Primitive Baptist Church, Saltillo where her late husband was pastor for nearly 35 years.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 17, at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Elder David Pyles and Elder Sammy Bryant officiating. Burial will be at Beulah PB Church Cemetery.

Survivors include three sons Dr. James David Gassaway (Anna Ray) of Starkville, Dr. John Gregory Gassaway (JoAnn) of Starkville, Thomas Leslie Gassaway (Kay) of Jacksons Gap, AL; her daughter Mary Louise O'Gwynn (Holden) of Brandon.

Other survivors are grandchildren Marian Wright, Starkville; Carol Gassaway, Johnson City, TN; Julie Baca (Keith), Starkville; Leslie O'Gwynn, White House, TN; Leah O. Kackley (Jason), Brandon; Robert O'Gwynn (Jaime), Ocean Springs, MS; David O'Gwynn, Birmingham, AL; Bryan Gassaway (Rebecca), Huntsville, AL; Jim Gassaway (Brittany), Starkville; JoLynn Gassaway, Little Rock, AK; Laura G. Solomon (Nicola Batiste), Verona,Italy; Mary G. Goodson (Kyle), LaGrange, GA; Lindsey Elmore, San Francisco, CA and Jake Elmore, Birmingham, AL.

Surviving great-grandchildren are Thea Wright Furby (Travis), Brandon; Rachel Box, Johnson City; Ethan Baca and Christina Baca, Starkville; Sarah Kackley and Noah Kackley, Brandon; Audrey O'Gwynn, Ocean Springs; Will Goodson, LaGrange.

One great-great- granddaughter, Kate Ashbury Furby, Brandon, also survives.

She is survived by 15 nieces and nephews. This includes Phyllis Hawkins Harper,Royce Hawkins (Billie), Jane Hawkins Talbert (Mike), Laurie Hawkins Teague, Ellen Hawkins, Carroll Leslie (Dorothy), Helen Leslie Little, Hazel Leslie Riggs, Sharia Leslie Sewell (Kirby), B. H. Leslie (Sandy), Jim Leslie (Shirley), Lynette Leslie Shotts (L. D.), Harold Leslie (Sue), Sammy Leslie, Kitty Leslie Chappell (Dan).

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Bryan, Lechner, Harrison, Owen Thomas, Charles, Calvin; her sisters Priscilla Huggins, Julia Martin and Mittie Lou Hawkins; nine nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons Robert O'Gwynn, David O'Gwynn, Jason Kackley, Bryan Gassaway, Jim Gassaway, Travis Furby, Kyle Goodson, Jake Elmore.

Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Beulah PB Church and any PB ministers who are in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the cemetery fund for Beulah P. B. Church.

Visitation will be on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.
