ROY SHELTON Tupelo - Roy Shelton was born on June 4, 1924, in Houlka, Mississippi to Bob and Alma Prude Shelton. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the age of 89. Roy is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Doris Doss Shelton, his children, Loretta Kanyo (Andre') and Jerry Shelton (Morgan), four grandchildren, Craig Shelton (Lenora), Skip Shelton (Jennifer), Brandon Kanyo and Zack Kanyo, seven great-grandchildren, Paul Shelton, Justin Shelton, Jackson Shelton, Aiden Shelton, Dillon Shelton, Brooklynn McCoy and Bryce McCoy and his sister, Martha Paden (Eugene). He was also brother to the late, Milton Shelton. He loved his family immensely and always adored the times he spent with them. After graduation in 1942 from Houlka High School, he was drafted at the age of eighteen and proudly served his country in the United States Army as a member of the 245th Engineer Combat Battalion during World War II. After the military, he farmed with his brother and father. After the farm flooded, he worked at the Patch Tractor Company. He also worked many years as an insurance agent with National Life Insurance from 1957 - 1964 and Allstate Insurance from 1964 until his retirement. A man of faith, he was a founding member and one of the first three elders of Lawndale Presbyterian Church and currently attended Harrisburg Baptist Church. He also committed his time as a member of the Gideon's International. The family asks that memorials may be made in his honor to the Gideon's, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214. He was a member of the Good Sam's RV Club, the Jaycee's and enjoyed spending time camping, baking, and woodworking. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the celebration of his life that was well-lived with honor and integrity on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the Harrisburg Baptist Church with Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating. A graveside with military honors will follow at Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will begin 12:00 p.m., noon, until service time Wednesday, at the church.
