Tupelo - Roy V. Savage, 88, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. An Itawamba Co. native, he was born November 14, 1919 to the late E.E. and Ann Earnest Savage. He graduated from Tupelo High School before attending electrical school. He worked as an electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for over 50 years. His work required him to travel to Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia, and Florida before returning home to Mississippi in 1983 at his retirement. During the years he spent in California, he was active in Boy Scouts and taught Sunday School and Training Union. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and an active and faithful member of Harrisburg Baptist Church since 1983.
A Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Harrisburg Baptist Church with Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Avinell Savage of Tupelo; three brothers-in-law, Neal Houston (Nellie), Lee Bennett (Mildred), and Clyde Bennett (Mildred); his sister-in-law, Jean Savage; a multitude of nieces and nephews including Peggy Ryan, Jane Goff, Joe, Jim, and Phil McCoy, Debbie Crawford, David Bennett, Danny Bennett, and Tim Houston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Paul A. Savage and his sister, Sue Savage Beard.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
