Roy Wayne Pannell

November 23, 1938 — July 16, 2015

ROY WAYNE PANNELL Saltillo - Roy Wayne Pannell, 76, went to join to join his Lord and Savior Thursday, July 16, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center, Hospice Unit after an extended illness. He was born November 23, 1938 to Goodman and Ellie Mae Langford Pannell. Roy lived in Zion for 30 plus years until he retired from Zion Benton High School as a maintenance worker and moved to Saltillo in 1994. He had a long standing battle with diabetes, but never let that effect his good humor. Roy was a jokester, loved everyone he met, and a very giving person. Since 2012, he was in Baldwyn Nursing Home and loved being there. He spent his days visiting with neighbors and making good friends. Although he had no children, he adopted all the children of his extended family and loved them as his own. Roy was a Christian since 1971 and was a member of Zion Second Baptist Church. The family would like to thank the Hospice Unit at North Mississippi Medical Center for their love and care; also, the staff at Baldwyn Nursing Home for their long standing care and a special nurse, Martha. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015, with Sammy Lansdell officiating and Zack Collins reading the eulogy at the Saltillo Chapel of W. E. Pegues. Burial will be in Saltillo Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include a special friend, whom he held a special place in his heart for, Nancy Hoff of Saltillo and her family Nat and Kelli Collins, their children Zack and Kelsi; one sister, Toni Barnes of Thaxton; one nephew, Wayne Croft (Ruth Ann) and his family, Jerry Croft (Jennifer), Dale Croft and Margie Owens, her son, Jonathan; Jerry's children, Rusty, Jessica, Hunter, Brittany and Layken. He was preceded in death by both his parents and one brother-in-law, J.C. Barnes. Pallbearers will be Wayne Croft, Jerry Croft, Nat Collins and Zack Collins.
