Roy E. Houston, Sr.

ROY E. HOUSTON, SR. Roy Edgar Houston, Sr., 89, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at the Maggie Valley Nursing & Rehab Center, Maggie Valley, NC. Mr. Houston was born May 23, 1923, in Baldwyn, MS, and was a son of the late Jodie and Naomi Smith Houston. He was married to Nona Wayne Houston, who died October 24, 2011. He was a veteran of WW II and was retired from Delta Mfg. Co. (formerly Rockwell), and he was a member of New Morgan Hill Baptist Church, Candler. He was a former active member of East Heights Baptist Church, Tupelo, where he served on many committees as well as being a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He is survived by his son, the Rev. Roy Houston and wife, Dana; granddaughters, Lisa Holland and husband, Randy, and Lori Halyburton and husband, Chad; and great-grandchildren, Levi and Caroline Holland. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue, Asheville and from Noon until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors. Graveside services 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Lee Memorial Park.
