Tupelo-- Roland Nell Chapman Anest, 92, died Saturday, February 19, 2011, at the Laney House, Traceway Retirement Community. She was a native of Georgetown, Miss. and a longtime resident of Tupelo. She was born December 15, 1918, the seventh child of Dr. Lemuel and Amanda Chapman. A 1940 graduate of Mississippi University for Women with a Bachelor of Science degree, she became a medical technologist, specializing in blood banking research and worked for the Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, La. In 1945, she married Nicholas Anest and moved to Knoxville, Tenn., where she was an active member of Central Baptist Church in Fountain City, Tenn. She taught Sunday School and was the Training Union director for several years. In 1961, the Anest family moved to Tupelo. From 1968 to 1973, she was the director of the blood bank at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She taught Sunday School at Calvary Baptist Church for 40 years until 2003, and was actively involved in the WMU program.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Dr. David Eldridge officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
She is survived by her three daughters, Ana Sue Anest of Watkinsville, Ga., Peggy Anest Arther of Indialantic, Fla., and Carolyn Anest Bredosky (Gary) of Southaven; two grandchildren, Lexia Arther of Indialantic, Fla. and Nicholas Bredosky of Southaven.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Nicholas Anest; and six siblings, Lena Izard, Ruth Nichols, Mary Sebren, Gussie Smith, Jim Chapman and Grace Mallory.
Members of Calvary Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
