Roger Weatherford

May 16, 1923 — January 22, 2011

Mooreville - Roger Weatherford, 87, died Saturday, January 22, 2011, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Pontotoc after a brief illness. He was born in the Ozark Community on born May 16, 1923 to Jim and Tabbie Richardson Weatherford. After graduation from high school, he served in the United States Navy. In 1945, he married Mary Caldwell and they made their home in Mooreville and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He retired after 30 years of service as a foreman in the fabrication department with Daybrite Lighting. He remained active and loved to garden and farm. He grew and provided the community with vegetables. He was a member of Boguefala Baptist Church.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Boguefala Baptist Church with Bro. David Perry and Bro. Royce Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary Caldwell Weatherford of Mooreville; three children, Carolyn Homan (Bubba) of Tupelo, Eddy Weatherford (Linda) of Tupelo and Jane Gatlin (Jim) of Oxford; four granddaughters, April Stewart (Keith Smith) of Tupelo, Becky Umfress of Portland, Oregon, Melanie Russell (Chad) of Olive Branch and Ginger Byrd (Josh) of Jackson; two step-grandchildren, Teresa Reeves (Terry) of Tremont and Wanda Sullivan of Tupelo; six great grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, one sister, Navonia Green of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Pallbearers will be Jackie Massey, David Estes, Gordon Smith, Willie Schumpert, James Carnathan, Jimmy Sheffield.

Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2011 at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be left at www.peguesfuneralhome.com
