ROBERT ALLEN SMITH
Tupelo - ROBERT ALLEN SMITH, 83, died Monday, July 16, 2007, at his residence after an extended illness. A Plantersville native, he was born August 4, 1923 to the late Chester and Mabel Schumpert Smith. He graduated from Plantersville High School and then went on to Mississippi State University where he earned his bachelor's degree. He was a member of the Alpha Zeta, Beta Beta Beta, and American Society of Agricultural Engineers while at Mississippi State. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the 84th infantry in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was manager of Tupelo Car & Truck Rentals for over 20 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Hershel Wiygul and Rev. Andy Ray officiating. Burial will be in Plantersville Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Fay Green Smith of Tupelo; two children, Allen Green Smith and wife, Mary, of Plantersville and Kay Jerome and husband, Pat, of Canton; three grandchildren, Mallory Anne Smith of Murphreesboro, Tenn., Patrick Jerome of Jackson, and Allen Jerome of Canton; two special in-laws, David Williams and Hollis Green of Tupelo.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Quay Smith.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
