Tupelo - Robert Norwood McNutt, 90, died Friday, December 17, 2010, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. A Tupelo native and lifelong resident, he was born December 1, 1920, to Henry Clay and Annie Lee Smith McNutt. A 1938 graduate of Tupelo High School, he then went on to Vanderbuilt University where he received his bachelors degree. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy as a petty officer on a destroyer on the South Pacific. After the war, he attended law school at Ole Miss where he received his LLB degree and then earned his LLM from Harvard University. He practiced law as a partner with Mitchell, McNutt, and Sams P.A., joining the firm in 1950, and retiring from full time practice in 1985. He remained of council until 2000. He enjoyed deep sea fishing and snorkeling, raising orchids, and tropical fish. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Tupelo.
Memorial Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Anne Russell Bradley officiating.
Survivors include his daughter, Anne McNutt Wilder (Hoot) of West Point; two grandchildren, Margaret Wilder of Starkville and Baxter Wilder (Ginger) of Nashville, Tenn..
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret McNutt who died in 2003..
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to service time Monday at the funeral home.
