Shannon--Robert E. McDade passed away on June 23, 2009 at the age of 84. He was born in Marie, Arkansas to Roberta Derdeyn McDade and Clarence R. McDade. His family soon moved to North Mississippi and purchased a small farm in Shannon, MS where Robert lived and worked for the remainder of his life.
Robert graduated from Shannon High School in 1944. After proudly serving in the US Army during World War II, Robert met and married the love of his life, Sarah Vivian Pearce. The two of them shared 43 wonderful years together before his beloved Sarah passed away in 1994.
A devout parishioner of St. James Catholic Church for over 80 years and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Robert enjoyed spending much of his time assisting with the various charitable activities performed by the Knights of Columbus.
Always active in his church, Robert was named Father of the Year by his church parish in 1964.
Throughout his life, Robert maintained a passion for gardening and fishing, passions in which he shared with his friends and family.
Robert leaves a legacy of morality, strength, tenacity, love, generosity, gentle spirit and kind humor to his 2 sons and their wives, Robert E. Gene McDade, Jr. and Nancy Leigh McDade of Tupelo, and William R. Randy McDade and Rhonda McDade of Columbus; and to his 4 Grandchildren, Caitlyn and Will McDade of Columbus, and John Henry and Ander Pearce McDade of Tupelo.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. James Catholic Church on Friday, June 26, 2009; at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Shannon Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Billy Hoing, Keith Merritt, Marcel Crudele, Ken Valentine
Mark Dye, Roy Jeagers.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus Council 8848.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8PM at the Funeral Home.
