ROBERT M. "Cotton" WEBB, JR.
Southaven - Robert Maurice "Cotton" Webb, Jr., 74, died Saturday, December 2, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, East in Memphis, Tenn. A native of Greensburg, La., he was born April 20, 1932 to the late Robert and Bertha Webb. He grew up in Baton Rouge and South Mississippi. A graduate of Wesson High School, he then went on to Copiah-Lincoln Junior College. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean conflict. After his discharge from the Army, he returned to Baton Rouge and worked in the insurance business. He later married Sandra Wesson Webb of Saltillo and began farming in Lee County. In 1964 he ws chosen as Lee County's Outstanding Young Farmer. He entered politics in 1967 when he was elected to the State House of Representatives. After that, he served as Mayor of Saltillo for two terms. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner. After retiring from farming, he owned and operated a group of T.V. rental stores. In the early 1980's, he was forced to retire from most of his business interests due to declining health. He had been living in the Memphis and Southaven area for the past 14 years. He was a member of the Saltillo Presbyterian Church
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues. A eulogy will be delivered by Sonny Lofton. Burial will be in Saltillo Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, John Julius Webb of Southaven, and William Pascal Webb and wife, Sherylan, of Starkville; his wife of 21 years, Sandra Wesson Webb of Oxford; seven sisters, all of Baton Rouge, La.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mertie McCoy, and a son, Robert M. Webb, III.
Pallbearers will be Travis Gray, Jimmy Marlin, Rodney Atkinson, Sonny Lofton, Pat Caudill, and Bubbie Caudill.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Friday at Saltillo Funeral Home.
