ROBERT EARL FINLEY, SR.

Auburn - Robert Earl "Bud Finley, Sr., 71, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born December 21, 1935 in Cotton Plant, Ark. to the late Robert Franklin Elias and Johnnie Fay Smith Finley. As a child, he lived in Memphis, St. Louis, and New Orleans, before moving to Cocoa Beach, Fla. where he graduated from Cocoa High School. While in high school, he was recruited by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. He attended Florida State University, graduating with a bachelors and masters degree in computer science. He worked with several sub-contractors, such as General Dynamics, on the space program. During this time he worked and lived over a year on the USS Vanderburg on a project developing plans which were top secrect at the time for a long range missle defense system. He moved to Tampa., Fla, where he owned Bay/Con Industries while he continued to serve as a consultant for NASA. While living in Satellite Beach, Fla., he was very involved in his community serving as president of the local Jaycee's, and also managed a local band, "The Sandpaper Castle. Upon moving to the Tupelo area, he worked as a data processor for several local businesses, inculding Tupelo Coffee, the Magnolia Hospital in Corinth, and the Wax Company in Amory. He retired in 1993. He was a member of the masonic lodge, #318 and attended First Evangelical Church. He also enjoyed fishing.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Pastor Kevin Mangum and Pastor Chris Johns officiating. Burial will be in Priceville Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Phyllis Marie Palmer Finley of Tupelo; three daughters, Margaret (Peggy) Rose Finley of Tampa, Fla., Andrea (Andi) Leigh Finley and Krista Kaye Finley, both of the home; two sons, Robert (Bobby) Earl Finley, Jr. of Tupelo, and John Edward Finley and wife, Ann, of Tupelo; a sister, Barbara Weathers and husband, Karrie, of the Eggville community; three grandchildren, Morgan Diana Uhl and husband, Jon, of Tampa, Fla., Sean Michael Finley and Christopher Ryan Finley, both of Tupelo.

Pallbearers will be Danny Hamblin, Kenny Hamblin, Mark Weathers, Steve Weathers, Andy Perry, Billy Reeves.

Visitation will continue Tuesday until 9 p.m. and Wednesday until service time.
