ROBERT M. "BOBBY" DAUGHERTY

Tupelo - Robert Madison "Bobby" Daugherty, 72, died Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County after a sudden illness. A Lee County native, he was born May 17, 1934 to the late Samuel Madison and Ollie Velma May Daugherty. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1961 in Austria and Germany as a member of the Medical Helicopter Detachment Unit. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He had been a deacon at Bissell Baptist Church and was currently a member of Chesterville Calvary Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher for many years.

Services will be 4 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2006 at Chesterville Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Wesley Stephens and Rev. Jim Varnon officiating. Burial will be in Chesterville Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Linda Simmons Daugherty of Tupelo; five daughters, Kim Saucier and husband, Rick, of Pontotoc, Sonia Todd and husband, Brent, of Pontotoc, Barbara Pannell and husband, Kevin, of Shannon, Patricia Kelley and husband, Shane, of Belden, and Samantha Thompson and husband, Jimmy, of Marietta; two brothers, Gerald Daugherty and wife, Gertrude, and Thomas Daugherty and wife, Elsie, all of Tupelo; seven granddaughters, Christy, Brandi, Taylor, Kaitlyn, Little Taylor, Alex, and Laura; five grandsons, Brad, Joey, Austin, Gaige, and Samuel; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Marjorie Cox, Doris Daugherty and Peggy Daugherty.

Pallbearers will be Brent Todd, Kevin Pannell, Shane Kelley, Jimmy Thompson, Dwight Simmons, Allen Simmons, Andy Simmons, Bill Shoemake.

Honorary pallbearers will be The men's Sunday School class at Chesterville Calvary Baptist Church and special friends, Marvin Trimm, Ben Burleson, Johnny Stanford, Marion Calmese, and Nunan Crane.

Visitation will continue 3 p.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Chesterville Calvary Baptist Church, 106 Doe Run Road, Tupelo, MS 38801; or the American Cancer Society, 1800 W. Main, Tupelo, MS 38801.
