Raymond Shattles

March 8, 1921 — January 5, 2009

Booneville - Raymond Richard "Shad" Shattles, 87, died Monday, January 5, 2009, at The Landmark Nursing and Rehabilitation after an extended illness. A Hattiesburg native, he was born March 8, 1921 to John and Delaney Shattles. He was raised in the Brooklyn Community near Hattiesburg. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He had lived 17 years in Iuka and the past 12 years in Booneville. He retired from TVA in 1985 after 50 years of service as an electrician. He enjoyed yard work, gardening, fishing, hunting, and was an avid Ole Miss Rebels football fan. He loved the time he spent with his grandchildren and his dog, Peanut. He was a member of Oakleigh Church of Christ and also attended Plesant Grove Church of Christ.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Minister Elmo Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Payne's Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Mittie "Nubbin" Shattles of Booneville; one daughter, Renita Brown and husband, Robert, of Booneville; two step-daughters, Jewell Reaves and husband, Robert, of Booneville and Susan Whitman and husband, William, of Mooreville; four step-sons, Danny Stevenson of Mooreville, Ricky Stevenson and wife, Sherry, of Enid, Bobby Taylor of Southhaven, Jon Mark Taylor and wife, Jamie, of Nettleton; his sister, Vernell Breland of Ocean Springs; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; the staff at the Landmark Nursing and Rehab in Booneville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers.

His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will continue Wednesday until service time at the funeral home.
