TupeloRaymond L. Kellum, Sr., 79, died Friday, December 21, 2007, at UAB Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was the son of Dr. and Mrs. H.J. Kellum, Sr. He graduated from Tupelo High School in 1947 and received his BAE degree from the University of Mississippi in 1953 and a MAE degree in 1960. In 1952, he served in Korea with the 7th Division as an artillery surveyor. He taught mathematics at Richland High School, Essex, Missouri from 1953 to 1965 and served as a Guidance Counselor at Tupelo High School from 1965 to 1993.
Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the West Main Church of Christ with Ministers Charles Tharp, Doug Greenway officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Jane Carr Kellum, of Tupelo; three daughters, Mary Beth Elam (Mark) of Memphis, Tenn., Diane Cates of Tupelo, and Lynn Townsend (Mark) of Jasper, GA; one son, Ray Kellum, Jr. (Jo) of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Erica Keller, Emma Kellum, Trey Cates and Shad Elam; one great-grandson, Landon Keller; and two brothers, Joe Kellum and Jesse Kellum.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. H.J. Kellum and brothers, Dr. Henry J. Kellum, Dr. Agrippa S. Kellum, and Dr. William C. Kellum.
Pallbearers will be his nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders of West Main Church of Christ and Roy Boggan, Alan Phillips, Dr. John Phillips, Brad Hilliard, James Smith, David Bridges, Zackory Bridges, Jacob Bridges, and Austin Monroe.
