RAYMOND "RAY" SWEAT
Tupelo - RAYMOND LEE "RAY" SWEAT, 84, died Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. A native of Selmer, Tenn., he was born August 15, 1922, to the late Claude and Ocie Foster Sweat. He was owner of Tri-State Wholesale Florist in Tupelo. He was a member of the Mississippi Antique Car Club and the Good Sams Camping Club. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and a former member of The First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Tupelo where he served as an elder and deacon.
Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Mike Hicks and Rev. Ray Morton officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Louise Gurley Sweat; one daughter, Deborah Sweat Blaylock and husband, Ed,of Guntown; one son, Rev. Joel Ray Sweat and wife, Nancy, of Blytheville, Ark.; one sister, Jo Etta Sweat McClain of Selmer, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Jay Sweat of Tupelo, Christy Sweat Phillips and husband, Kirk of Saltillo, James Matthew Blaylock and wife, Stacie, of Hattiesburg; Cary Sweat and wife, Melinda, of Richmond, Va., and Beth Anne Warren and husband, Kavin, of Saltillo; five great-grandchilden, Bailey Phillips, Reece Phillips, Alese James, Peyton Warren, and Emilee Warren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Sweat and Ocie F. Powell and a sister, Sylvia R. Sims.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jay Sweat, Kirk Phillips, Matt Blaylock, Cary Sweat, Kavin Warren, and son-in-law, Ed Blaylock
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Good Sams Camping Club Members.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, and will continue Saturday morning until service time Saturday. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m.
