TupeloRalph Hershfelt, 88, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. He was Born July 17, 1922, in St. Louis, MO and served in the US Navy as a training pilot during WW II. He worked in and owned his own manufacturing businesses for many years. In 1960, he moved to Tupelo, becoming a part of the community he loved. He will be remembered as a proud gentleman, cherished and respected by his many friends and family.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at The Jefferson Street Chapel with Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Ann Hershfelt of Tupelo; his sisters, MaryAnn Rueter of Decatur IL and Betty Hershfelt Taylor of Dunedin, FL; his brother, Robert Hershfelt of Decatur, IL; his children, Ralph Jr & Augusta Hershfelt of Fernandina Beach, FL , Don and Judy Hershfelt of Tupelo, Dan Rippeto and Chris Hershfelt of Chicago, IL, Bill and Beth Parks of New Albany, and Guy and Emily Childers of New Albany; his grandchildren, Heath and Toni Hershfelt of Tupelo; Clay and Leigh Cruse of Tupelo; Jeff and Holly Hershfelt of Austin TX, Ralph III and Anne Hershfelt of NC, Gretchen Hughes Stanfill of Tupelo; Alex and Amy Johnston of NC, Jonathan and Sara Elisabeth Cobb of Birmingham, AL, and Anne Elise Parks of New Albany, Anslie Claire, Becca Ann and Lilly Cate Childers of New Albany; his great-grandchildren, Hayden, Hayes, and Perry Hershfelt, Sage, Grisham and Grey Cruse, Ruby Hershfelt, Harrison and Hailey Hershfelt, Caroline and William Hughes, Sarah Elizabeth Stanfill, and Quinn Johnston.
Greatly appreciated is the loving professional care extended to Mr. Hershfelt by the extraordinary physician and friend Dr. Billy Walton.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Tom Bailey, Jim Threlkeld, Billy Hodges, Buddy Prude, Russell Yarborough, Billy Wheeler, Jim Collins, Mickey Holliman, Len Pegues, Dick Hill, Darrell Smith, Tom Childs, and A.J. Pitts
Visitation will be noon to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
