Prentis Franks

Skyline - Prentis V. Franks, 89, died Thursday, December 23, 2010, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born August 26, 1921, in the Gilvo Community to Otto and Irene Payne Franks. Due to an injury as a child, he was unable to serve in the military; however, during World War II he worked for the Manhattan Project in Oakridge, Tenn. A man of many tallents, he began his working career as a peddler with Frank's Rolling Store. He later worked for Brown's Salvage a number of years and also worked as a mechanic. Later in life he owned Frank's Pawn Shop for over 20 years. He was an avid gardener and loved his antique tractor. He was a member of Open Door Baptist Church. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Minister Leon Willis and Rev. Chad Grayson officiating. Burial will be in Payne Cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Knight (Mike) of Tupelo, Sue Wright (Bill) of Mooreville, and Penny O'Quinn of Tupelo; special friend and caregiver, Phil Ewing of Tupelo; seven grandchildren, Rusty Knight of Southaven, Brandy Hogan (Chris) of Tupelo, Alex Knight (Summer) of Nettleton, Jason Wright of Mooreville, Candi Quartaro (Brent) of Tupelo, Kristen O'Quinn of Tupelo, Ashleigh O'Quinn of Houston, TX; five great-grandchildren, Zoe Wright, Chandler Quartaro, Will Quartaro, Connor Hogan and Aiden Wright; and one sister, Dorothy Nichols of Plantersville; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Franks; one sister, Mary Kate Wilson; and two brothers, Thomas Swanzy Franks and Charles (Bud) Franks.

Pallbearers will be Tom Franks, Donnie Nichols, Paul Brents, Bobby Brents, Steve Franks, Chris Hogan, and Brent Quartaro.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
