Polly McCarter Crawford Thomason

Tupelo - Sara "Polly" McCarter Crawford Thomason, 101, died Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at her residence after a brief illness. She was born in the Macedonia Community in Lee County, September 22, 1916, to Isaac Allison "Ike" and Sallie Williamson McCarter. In 1935, she graduated from Sherman High School. She was married to John Woody Crawford until his death in 1975. In 1981, she married Archie Thomason and together they shared life until his death in 1995. After 40 years of service, she retired from the office of J.J. Rogers Wholesale Grocery. She enjoyed spending time with her special neighbors in her carport and going to auctions and estate sales. She loved to travel, especially to Gatlinburg and the mountains, and enjoyed shopping. She was a big Atlanta Braves fan and also enjoyed watching basketball. Polly was the oldest, long-time member of First Presbyterian Church.



Survivors include one sister-in-law, Katie Crawford of Paducah, Kentucky; four nieces, Susan Seay of Paducah, Mary Nell Pitman of McCaysville, Georgia, Bobbie Cochran of Belden, and Loretta Hettler of Tupelo; eight nephews, Bob Crawford of Brandon, Jimmy Woodall and Charles Woodall of McCaysville, Mike McCarter of Blue Springs, John William Rice of Pontotoc, Ike McCarter of  New Albany and David Thomason of Tupelo; one special friend and caregiver, Juanita Donaford of the Furrs Community; and one special neighbor and caregiver, Janie Palmer of Tupelo.



She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Woody Crawford; second husband, Archie M. Thomason; three sisters, Lou Branyan, Sue McCarter and Nannie Rice; five brothers, John McCarter, Pick McCarter, Bill McCarter, Doc McCarter and Ben McCarter; one niece, Kate Roberts; and five nephews, Henry Branyan, Charles McCarter, Larry McCarter, Neal McCarter, and Joe McCarter.



Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time Thursday, July 26, 2018, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.



Services honoring her life will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2018, at the Jefferson Street Chapel with Rev. Ron Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.



Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 400 W. Jefferson St. Tupelo, MS 38804.
