Phyllis Smith

Tupelo - Phyllis Fry Smith, 96, died September 24, 2008 at Cedars Health Care Center at Traceway after an extended illness. She was born in Lee County on April 18, 1912, to Jacob and Parris Morgan Fry. She married Francis Theodore Smith in 1943. He preceded her in death January 30, 1970. For many years she and her husband were in the grocery business. Later she was a secretary at Joyner Elementary School. She was a charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. She was on the Floral Arrangement Committee and had a special interest in the Childrens Department. She was an active member until her health declined. She was loved by many for her caring and loving spirit.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues Jefferson Rev. Rick Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors are a nephew, Robert C. Smith and his wife Helga of Severna Park, Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Amanda Fry, and a brother, Morgan Fry.
Pallbearers will be George Simpson, David Monaghan, Sr., Mike Black, Joe Hussey, Slayden Murphree, and George Watson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Phyllis Harper, Mary Ann Simpson, members of McClellan Sunday School Class at St. Luke, and Elders and Shahbaz of Page House at Traceway Green Houses.
Visitation will be from 5 PM until 7 PM Thursday, September 25.
