Philip King

Belden - Philip Wayne ?Phil? King, 71, died Saturday, February 18, 2012, at The North Mississippi Medical Center. A Lee County native and lifelong resident, he was born August 27, 1940 to Joseph Franklin and Kathryn Elizabeth Phillips King. A1958 graduate of Tupelo High School, he then attended Mississippi State University. His employment career began with RC Cola Bottling. He also owned and operated Joe's Minit Mart and Catering Service and then worked as the production manager at Fomex. He served as Visitation Coordinator at W.E. Pegues for the past ten years. He was well known in the area as the bass singer for the Southern Gospel quartet, The Landmarks, of which he was a founding member. His family was the joy of his life and he loved spending time with them. He also enjoyed camping, hunting fishing and motorcycles. He was a member of Belden Baptist Church.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, February 20, 2012 at Belden Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Holcomb officiating. Rev. Jerry King will deliver the eulegy. A special musical tribute will be given by the Landmark Quartet. Burial will be in Endville Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Jean Altom King of Belden; his son, Jeff King (Angie) of Tupelo; his daughter, Alicia Powell (Mike) of Saltillo; four grandchildren, Katie and Alex King, and Tanner and Tristan Powell; his brother, Rev. Jerry King (Priscilla) of Starkville; his brother-in-law, Bob Kelly of Tupelo; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kathy King Kelly, and a brother-in-law, Harold Altom.

Pallbearers will be members of the Landmark Quartet, Richard Gray, Larry Kirk, Wayne Hussey, Larry McCord, Jeff Crews, Billy Nelson and Allen Rooker ; and the staff of W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors, Greg and Sandy Pegues, J.C. Robbins, Sammy Lansdell, Landon Roberson, Mike Easley, Robert Wilson, Harvey Raper, Joey Tutor, Joan McCraw, Steve Bramlett, Jack Lesley, Marla Ledbetter, Shirley Mills, Dewayne Daniels, Bill Williams, Willis Swain and Rex Haygood.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
