Tupelo—Philip Glen “Phil” Youngblood, age 75, passed away Friday, December 16, 2022 at his home, surrounded by family and friends. He was born July 1, 1947 to Harold and Edith Youngblood in Jackson. Phil was raised in Crystal springs with his brothers, Lindy, Jerry, and Don and graduated from Crystal Springs High School. After graduation, Phil served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S Army. He then went to work for Dixie Bearings in Jackson and later transferred to Tupelo as branch manager of the Dixie Bearings in Tupelo. While working in Tupelo, a colleague in the bearing industry introduced him to the love of his life, Gwendy, who became his wife of 46 years and together they raised their beloved daughter, Amy Youngblood Myers. After working for Dixie Bearings for several years, he went to work for Motion Industries until his retirement. Throughout his life, Phil had many hobbies. He was an avid hunter and loved Ole Miss Football. He also enjoyed boating, water skiing, fishing, astronomy, photography, and Aikido. In 2019 Phil was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Throughout his long battle with this disease, he maintained his faith, strength, and sense of humor until his final breath.
He is survived by his wife, Gwendy Youngblood; daughter, Amy Myers (Casey); grandchildren, Clayton, Sarah Ellis, and Catherine Myers; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Edith Youngblood; and his brothers, Harold Lindsey, Gerald Eugene, and Donald Wayne Youngblood.
Visitation will be 12 until 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church. Services honoring Phil’s memory will be 2 p.m. Tuesday with Dr. John Boler officiating. Burial will follow at Tupelo Memorial Park.
