Tupelo - Pauline H. Altom, 78, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, January 25, 2014. A native of Itawamba County, she was born September 23, 1935, to John and Maddie Presley Hayes. She loved to cook and sew. For several years, she organized church services, for people who could not regularly attend their church, at the apartment complex where she lived. She loved Jesus and was a member of South Green Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at Tupelo Memorial Park with Rev. John McAlister officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Christy Jaggers (Jason) of Mooreville; four sons, James Mike Altom (Rhonda) of Tupelo, Guy Hayes Altom of Tupelo, James Ray Altom of Tupelo, James Paul McCain (Angie) of Saltillo; grandchildren, Michael Altom (Jennifer) of Southaven, Melissa Funderburk (Brad) of Thorn, Meagan Robinson (Matt) of New Albany, Austin Altom of Pontotoc, Brayden McCain of Saltillo, Kim Shaw (Shane) of Pontotoc and Matthew Gassaway of Fairview; three sisters, Lavern Kennedy, Fay Harris and Dorothy Green; three brothers, Leon, Junior and Ferrell Hayes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 43 years, Jimmie Altom; one brother, Bobby Hayes; one sister, Mary Heatherly; one daughter, Sandra K. McCain; one grandson, Derrick Gassaway.
Pallbearers will be Greg Hayes, David Baskins, Tim Hayes, Chris Waddle, Marty Hayes and Larry Hayes.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2014, at the funeral home and continued Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until service time.
