PAUL R. CLAYTON
TupeloPaul Raymond Clayton, 80, died Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at his residence after a sudden illness. He was born in Dorsey on November 6, 1924, to the late Prentis Carl and Myrtle Martin Clayton. A Tupelo resident, he worked for Deposit Guaranty for 36 years and also had worked for Tommy Brooks Oil Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Luncheon Civitan for over 50 years and served on the board of directors and as president. He served 16 years on the Board of Alderman for the city of Tupelo and was a member of the American Legion and the Elvis Presley Heights Businessmens Association. He was a member of East Heights Baptist Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Terry Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Wilma Exie Clayton; one daughter, Myra Clayton Sharp of Tupelo; one son, Mark Clayton of Tupelo; two sisters, Clarine McCain and Charlene Weathers, both of Tupelo; and four grandchildren, Stacy Sharp, Robin Sharp, Leah Clayton, and Adam Clayton, all of Tupelo.
Pallbearers will be members of the Comer Caf Breakfast ClubBen Simons, Travis Avent, Allen Wilson, Elmer Clark, Butch Dendy, Jimmy Carter, Reese Whittington, C.W. Jackson, and Tommy Brooks.
Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home on Jefferson Street.
