Patti Hawkins Abernathy

Shannon-- Patti Ann Hawkins Abernathy, 64, passed away Monday, October 10, 2022, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Patti was born September 5, 1958, to A. B. Hawkins and Minnie Laura Wilson. She graduated from Shannon High School. Patti taught for Lee County School District and was a real estate agent. She was a longtime member of Verona Church of Christ. Patti loved Tennessee Walking Horses and enjoyed watching her sons and grandchildren show their horses. She also enjoyed trips to the beach, and spending time with her family.

Patti is survived by three sons, Edgar Abernathy and his wife, Chrystal, of Olive Branch, James Abernathy and his fiancé, Rae Shumate-Tysor, of Petersburg, Tennessee, Joseph Abernathy and his fiancé, Ashley Say, of Christiana, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Claudia Gribble, Ella Abernathy, Reese Abernathy, Cohen Abernathy, and Cason Abernathy; and five siblings, Jimmy Carter and his wife, Kim, Abby Underwood, Camille Hawkins Hester, Elizabeth E. Gregory, and Jay Hawkins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.

Services honoring Patti’s life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Verona Church of Christ, with Wayne Cox officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors has been entrusted with arrangements.
