Lake Piomingo - Owen K.Knudson, 82, died Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at his residence. A native of Winger, MN, he was born June 21, 1927, to Benny and Olivia Engen Knudson. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater on the USS LCS4-77, achieving the rank of 1st Class Petty Officer. He also served in the National Guard during the Korean War. He lived in Northern Minnesota where he owned newspapers in Fertile, Winger, and McIntosh, MN. He also owned a theater in Fertile. He moved to North Chicago in 1960 where he was a printer through the mid 70's. He then moved to Northern Wisconsin where he owned three printing businesses in Tomahawk, Schofield, and Athens Wisc. He was married to Marion Knudson who died November 10,1983. He moved to Lake Piomingo in 1999. Earlier in his life he enjoyed fishing, camping, and bowling. He was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a Mason.
Memorial Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Union Grove Cemetery with Pastor Ryan Napalo officiating. Private graveside services will be in Union Grove Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his daughter, Deborah Olesak of Eggville; his daughter-in-law, Susan Knudson of Ft. Collins, CO; three granddaughters, Dana Roberts (Kevin) of Eggville, and Amy and Kylie Knudson of Ft. Collins, CO.; two great-grandchildren, Callie and Brody Roberts of Eggville; five step-children, Thomas Markiewicz (Teresa) of Lake Piomingo, Danny Markiewicz (Beth) of Santa Rosa, California, John Markiewicz of Milwaukee, WI, Cathy Huber (Rick) of Illinois, and Debbie Fowler of Beach Park, Ill.; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Marlene Remmel of Kansas; two brothers, Boyd Knudson and Allen Knudson, both of North Dakota; his longtime partner, Betty Markiewicz of Lake Piomingo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his son, Dennis L. Knudson who died March 2, 2008.
