Tupelo-- Ottis Clayton Vinson, 98 went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday September 19, 2010 at the Greenhouses at Traceway. She had celebrated her 98th birthday on September 18th with her daughter, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and her great-great grandchildren and had a wonderful day.
She was born on September 18, 1912 to R. W. and Mattie Clayton. She attended school at Mt. Vernon and Belden. She married Roy Vinson in 1929 and they shared 58 happy years together until his death on July 1, 1987. She worked for many years in the garment industry and was a very accomplished seamstress. She attended Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where she was the oldest member of the church. She loved her Lord, her Church and her Church family.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Bro. Doug Westmorland officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter Mary Frances Stephenson of Belden and a daughter in law Faye Vinson of Tupelo, seven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and eleven great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Vinson, a son Wayne Vinson, a daughter Virginia and her husband Tommy Gibson and a son-in-law Ray Stephenson, a grandson Greg Vinson, a granddaughter Linda Gibson Sartain, a great-grandson Shaun Lowry, four sisters and three brothers.
Pallbearers will be her great-grandsons, Shawn Summers, Landon Summers, Darrell Cooper, Gregory Vinson, Timothy Sartain, Colm McCool, Kyle Sapp, James Stephenson and Bradley Hamblin.
Honorary Pallbearers will be her nephews Jerry Clayton, Joe Clayton, Danny Raper, Edward Raper and Kenneth Herring.
Visitation will be 5-8p.m Tuesday at the funeral home from. and from 10a.m. to service time at 11:00a.m. on Wednesday.
