Opal Stevens

August 27, 1913 — March 23, 2010

Tupelo Opal D. Stevens, 96, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. A Tupelo native and lifelong resident, she was born August 27, 1913 to James Edward and Ola Vivian Reese Davenport. She worked 55 years for Reeds Manufacturing as a seamstress. She was the widow of Cecil L. Stevens who died Nov. 21, 1971. She was a faithful member of Tupelo Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Terry Pierce officiating. Burial will be in Priceville Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Dickerson (James) of Baldwyn; two sons, Kenneth Stevens of Tupelo and Jimmy Stevens (Peggy) of Blue Springs; one sister, Eugenia Woods of Tupelo; six grandchildren, Kim Lewis (Stan)of White Hall, Ark., Amy Darnell (Jim) of Collierville, Tenn., Tanja Benson (Ron) of Mantachie, Teanna Thompson of Pontotoc, Brandy Armstrong (Blue) of Mantachie, Kristie Kasimakis (Rudy) of Tupelo; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Wayne Stevens; her granddaughters, Pam Ryan and Kelly Stevens; her grandson, Tony Stevens; her daughter-in-law, Laura K. Stevens; two brothers, and three sisters.

Pallbearers will be Jack McKinney, Buzzy Cullum, David Cullum, Paul Bradley, Gerald Montgomery, and Gabe Ryan.

Visitation will continue 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
