Tupelo - Opal Grant, 89, died Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born December 8, 1920, in Boyle, MS to Robert Lee Bass and Mandy Rachael Tweedle Bass. A longtime resident of Tupelo, she spent her life caring for her children and grandchildren, loving them unconditionally, and received great joy from cooking for them. She was a member of Monument Drive Baptist Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Roger Smith and Rev. Scott Benjamin officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include her husband of 75 years, Billy Grant of Tupelo; four daughters, Bobbie Jaggers of Tupelo, Billie Poole (Buddy) of Hamilton, Carolyn Bratton (Butch) of Tupelo, and Peggy Holley of Tupelo; 18 grandchildren, 40 great-great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Russell who died 2006; two grandchildren, Phillip Heath Holley and Richard Thomas III.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
