Opal Atkins

March 3, 1919 — September 24, 2008

Chattanooga - Opal Lynette Atkins, 89, died Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at the Health Center at Standifer Place in Chattanooga, Tenn. after an extended illness. She was born March 3, 1919, in Tupelo to Samuel Roland and Bridget Crowson Yarbrough. She moved to Memphis in 1948 where she worked as the manager of Halpern's Fabric until she retired. She was the widow of Archie Kenneth Atkins. She was an avid reader and loved to sew and cook for her family. She was a member of Oak Hill Methodist Church.

Graveside Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Sam Yarbrough officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice Johnston of Memphis, Tenn. and Donna Paulk and husband, Harry, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one brother, Paul Yarbrough of Corinth; six grandchildren, Kevin Paulk and wife, Sherri, of Ashland City, Tenn., Kelly Paulk, Brian Paulk, both of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Laurie Winston and husband, Tom, of Charlotte, N.C., Kenneth Johnston and Keith Johnston, both of Memphis, Tenn.; and two great-grandchildren, Hank Winston and Lucy Katherine Winston.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; one sister, Betty Sudduth; four brothers, Carrol Yarbrough, Quay Yarbrough, Wayne Yarbrough, and David Boyd Yarbrough.

Pallbearers will be Brian Paulk, Kevin Paulk, Keith Johnston, Sam W. Yarbrough, Charles Yarbrough, and Harry Paulk.

Kenneth Johnston will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
