OLENE SNIPES
BissellOlene Walton Snipes, 85, died Thursday, April 6, 2006, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after a lengthy illness. She was born July 30, 1920, in the Dorsey Community in Itawamba County to the late Willie Edward and Nellie Mae Cooley Walton. A long time resident of Tupelo and Bissell, she worked in the earlier years of her life with Blue Bell Manufacturing. For most of her working years she managed Little Joes Clover Leaf Drive In. In her later years she owned a flower arranging and wedding directing business. She was a long time member of Bissell Baptist Church where she was involved with the Team Kids and Awana Kids groups. Her husband Lamar S. Snipes preceded her in death Sept. 14, 2003.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Randy Gillespie officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.
Survivors include two sons, Wade D. Snipes and wife, Addie, of Bissell, and Grover E. Snipes and wife, Margie, of Germantown, Tenn.; one sister, Willie Mae Staten of Bartlett, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Steven Snipes, Jennifer Vogel, Al Snipes, Ann Chambliss, Doug Snipes, Todd Snipes, and Tammie Holiman; 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, John Edward Walton; and two sisters, Mabel Henley and Wanda Joyce Henson.
Pallbearers will be James Holiman, Thomas Chambliss, Doug Snipes, Steven Snipes, Eddie Walton, and Larry Roebuck.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
