OLA MARTHA SOPER

Tupelo - Ola Martha Soper, 97, died Sunday, November 12, 2006, at Green Houses At Traceway after an extended illness. A Phillipsburg, Kansas native, she was born May 19, 1909 to the late Charles O. and Blanche Mende Quick. She attended the University of Mississippi where she received a certificate in choral directing. She and her late husband, Rev. C.D. Soper, began their ministry in a church in Baytown, Tex. In 1945, they moved to Tupelo where they founded the Pentecostal Bible Institute and the First Pentecostal Church. In the school, she taught English, typing, shorthand, and chorus until 1961. In 1962 they purchased Tupelo Floral and Gift Shop which she managed until 1973. She was a member of First Pentecostal Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She had also taught Sunday School at Cedar Grove Pentecostal Church. She was a special pastors wife who loved God and the people around her. She touched many lives, making a difference for her own family as well as so many who considered her a "second mother.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2006 at First Pentecostal Church with Rev. Larry Hill and Rev. Larry Hill, II officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Grace Williamson and husband, Rev. Larry Williamson, of Richmond, Tex., two sons, Dan Soper, and wife, Linda, of Tupelo, and Tim Soper and wife, Theresa, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; five grandchildren, Aleta Bath and husband, Andy, of Kingwood, Tex., Dana Soper and wife, Rachel, of Montgomery, Ala., Brent Soper and wife, Kim, of Ramstein, Germany, Summer Daniel and husband, Shawn, of Richmond, Tex., Nalani Holland, of Tupelo; eight great-grandchildren, Kaylan, Hannah, Olivia, and Jared Soper, Evan Bath, Joshua and Jacob Daniel, and Kalea Holland;and three half brothers.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Rev. C.D. Soper; one daughter, Joanna Joyce Soper; a sister, Tressa Kantola; and two half brothers.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Daniel, Andy Bath, Dana Soper, Brent Soper, James Cook, and Gary Kantola.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, at the church.
