ODA GRAY SMITH
New Albany - Oda Gray Smith, 97, died Monday, May 28, 2007, at Magnolia Place in New Albany after an extended illness. A Union Co. native, she was born January 28, 1910 to the late Bobby James and Allie Lamar Gray. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Mississippi State University and then received a Masters in Education Degree from the University of Mississippi. She taught school for over 20 years in the Tupelo Public School System, retiring as principal of Rankin Elementary School. She was a member of Plantersville Untied Methodist Church.
Graveside services were 3 p.m. Tuesday at Plantersville Cemetery with Rev. Adron Horne officiating.
Survivors include two sisters, Avola Shelton of Jackson and Betty Sue Spencer of New Albany; and two brothers, Robert L. Gray and wife, Juanita, of Greenville and Warren Gray of New Albany.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Smith; a son, Robert J. Smith; a sister, Etoy Curtis; and two brothers, Loyt Gray and Leighton Gray.
