OCTAVIA "TAE " MCCOY

Tupelo - Octavia "Tae" Harris McC oy, 98, died Monday, January 15, 2007, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Shannon February 17, 1908 to the late James Ruben and Rebecca Brown Harris. She was a graduate of Mississippi State College for Women where she graduated with a B.S. degree in education. She taught shcool in Rayville, La, Eupora, Nettleton, and 24 years at Tupelo High School, retiring in 1973. She had lived at Traceway Mannor since 1986, the past five years at the Mitchell Center. She was very active in the United Methodist Women, Peripatatic Club, and the Shannon Women's Clubs. She was the widow of T. J. McCoy who preceded her in death September 9, 1948. She was a member of Shannon United Methodist Church since 1920 and taught Sunday School for 44 years.

Services will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Mike Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery.

Survivors include a sister, Virginia Oakley and a sister-in-law, Sarah Harris, bothof Memphis; 13 nieces and nephews, Tommy Harris and wife, Cherie, Leslie Van Buskirk, and husband, Mike, all of Tupelo, Dottie Todd and husband, Don, Sue Goldberg, Jan Show and husband, Tom, Jared Oakley and wife, Kim, all of Memphis, Tenn., Becky Hux and husband, Ron, of Delaware, Jimmy Harris and wife, Judy, of Albuquerque, N.M., Susan Griffith and husband, Lanny, Robert Oakley and wife, Meg, all of Virginia, Belinda Edwards and Melissa Thibodeaux and husband, Mike, all of Louisianna, John Edwards of Norway; 23 great-nieces and nephews; and ten great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Beal Shannon and Linda Edwards; five brothers, W.T., Charles, Lamar, James Owen, and Humphrey Harris.

Pallbearers will be Tom West, Jim Bert Lauderdale, Herman Homan, Jr., Ray Powell, and Brooks Vaughn,Jr.

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of her Sunday School Class at Shannon United Methodist Church and members of Tom Barnett's Sunday School Class at St. Luke United Methodist Church.
