G.C. STEVENS
Tupelo - G.C. STEVENS, 80, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A native of Fulton, he was born February 28, 1926 to the late George Clifford and Nima Cook Stevens. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army during World War II in Northern France. He worked for the National Park Service with the Natchez Trace for 38 years and then for Wal-Mart 16 years. He was currently a member of Mayfield Church of Christ and previously a member of Gloster Street Church of Christ. Throughout his life, he taught Sunday School, directed singing, and served as an elder. Earlier, he had preached in several churches in North Mississippi. The love of his life was his family.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2006 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Ministers Joe Connell, Delbert Turner and Larry Lott officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Opal Marie Pierce Stevens, of Tupelo;one daughter, Judy Marie Lott and husband, Larry, of Saltillo; three grandaughters, Melody Webb and husband, Thomas, of Saltillo, Jennifer Boutwell and husband, Billy, of Madison, Amanda Lott Myers of Jackson; three great-grandchildren, Anne Marie, Caleb, and Mary Katherine Webb all of Saltillo; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Mae Hargett, and two brothers, Bill Stevens and Elmo Stevens.
Pallbearers will be Carl Pierce, Jiggs Wilson, Jerry Stevens, Jerry Pierce, Carlos White, Marcelle Mann, Robert Davidson, Chris Gannon
Honoarary Pallbearers will be Thomas Webb, Billy Boutwell, Clyde Neaves, The Elders at the Mayfield Church of Christ, and Wal-Mart Associates.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
